For the Filling:

  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Soup:

  • 8 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 carrot, julienned
  • 1 cup Napa cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro for garnish
  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onions for garnish

Making the Filling:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine ground pork, chopped green onions, minced garlic, grated ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  2. Roll the pork mixture into small meatballs, about 1/2 to 1 inch in diameter.

Making the Soup:

  1. In a large pot, heat 1 teaspoon of sesame oil over medium-high heat. Add the julienned carrot, sliced mushrooms, and thinly sliced Napa cabbage. Sauté for about 5 minutes or until the vegetables start to soften.
  2. Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to a simmer.
  3. Carefully drop the pork meatballs into the simmering broth. Cook for about 5-7 minutes or until the meatballs are cooked through and no longer pink in the center.
  4. Ladle the soup into bowls, making sure to distribute the veggies, meatballs, and broth evenly.
  5. Garnish with chopped cilantro and green onions.

Note: For added heat, you can sprinkle a dash of chili flakes or hot sauce on top.
